Dindyal Ramkissoon was named VP of sales and marketing of Acacia Research's (Newport Beach, California) CombiMatrix group's subsidiary, Combimatrix Molecular Diagnostics. Ramkissoon previously worked for Applied Spectral-Imaging. Acacia Research comprises two operating groups: Acacia Technologies Group and CombiMatrix Group. The CombiMatrix group makes technology to rapidly produce tailored-content arrays, which are semiconductor-based tools for use in identifying and determining the roles of genes, gene mutations and proteins.

Ken Titlebaum was named CFO and Mike Tognotti was named VP of worldwide sales of Aushon BioSystems (Burlington, Massachusetts). Titlebaum joined Aushon from E Ink Corporation, and Tognotti came from CombiMatrix. Aushon makes products for microarray-based analysis.

Dennis Gauger was named CFO of BSD Medical (Salt Lake City). He previously worked for Deloitte & Touche. BSD makes systems that deliver precision-guided radiofrequency (RF) and microwave energy into diseased sites of the body.

• EPIX Pharmaceuticals (Lexington, Massachusetts) reported that its chairman of the board of directors, Christopher Gabrieli, has decided to retire from the board, effective as of the date of the EPIX annual meeting of stockholders on June 27, 2007. Upon Gabrieli's retirement, Frederick Frank, currently a member of the EPIX board, has been appointed to serve as chairman. Frank is also vice chairman and director of Lehman Brothers.

EPIX Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company focused on novel pharmaceutical products through the use of proprietary technology to better diagnose, treat and manage patients.

Ralph Tang was named VP of solutions marketing for MEDecision (Wayne, Pennsylvania). Prior to joining MEDecision, Tang most recently served as director of strategic marketing for Vertex. MEDecision is a provider of software, services and clinical content to healthcare payers.

Charles Wagner has been named CFO of Millipore (Billerica, Massachusetts). Mr. Wagner will assume the role on August 15, 2007, and current CFO Kathleen Allen will stay on through February 18, 2008 to assist with the transition. Wagner is currently the VP of strategy and corporate development for Millipore. Millipore provides products and services that improve productivity and results in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and in clinical, analytical and research laboratories.

Wayne Burns was named CFO of NanoString Technologies (Seattle). Also, Jonathan Roy was named VP of sales. Burns most recently he served as COO and CFO at Action Engine. Roy comes to NanoString from Alfa Wassermann Proteomic Technologies. NanoString Technologies makes a patent-pending nanotechnology-based platform for high speed, highly multiplexed, single molecule identification and digital quantification.

Marc Sportsman was named VP of sales of SyntheMed (Iselin, New Jersey). He most recently served as VO of Sales at ATS Medical. SyntheMed is a biomaterials company engaged in the development and commercialization of anti-adhesion and drug delivery products.

• ThromboVision (Houston) has named Clarice Motter to be interim CFO/controller and LeAnn Latham as director of regulatory affairs. Motter served previously in the same capacity for MicroMed Technology. Latham formerly was director of regulatory affairs and quality assurance for NovoSci. Thrombovision is a biomedical diagnostics company.

Ezra Katzen was named general counsel of UltraShape (Yoqneam, Israel). Katzen previously served as general counsel for shopping.com. Ultrashape makes body contouring products.

Steven McLaughlin was promoted to executive vice president of U.S. HealthWorks (Valencia, California). Previously, McLaughlin was senior VP and general manager of the company's west division. U.S. HealthWorks runs outpatient occupational health and urgent care centers.
