Micell Technologies (Raleigh, North Carolina) reported that it has engaged Foster-Miller (Boston) for further development work and automation of its manufacturing process for creating drug-eluting coatings for medical devices.
Under the agreement, the project will include phased development of systems and manufacturing engineering related to Micell's cardiovascular drug-eluting stent (DES) coating process, providing Micell with a manufacturing system to realize benefits in process efficiency and performance.
Arthur Benvenuto, CEO and chairman of Micell, said, “In addition to their broad experience in developing automated manufacturing systems for the biomedical industry, Foster-Miller has a demonstrated ability to engineer breakthrough concepts that target major markets.”
Micell is a private early-stage biomedical company developing combination product therapies in the cardiovascular, orthopedic and drug-delivery sectors, using supercritical fluids for improving current polymer based drug-eluting technologies.
Foster-Miller, a technology development firm, is certified to Aerospace Quality Management Standard AS9100 and has SW-CMM Level 3 software certification from the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. It is an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ North America.
