Kenneth “Kip” Kokinakis was named president/CEO of MicroOptical (Westwood, Massachusetts). Kokinakis previously was chairman/CEO of Aura Communications, and before that he was CEO and managing director of Memec Asia-Pacific. MicroOptical makes eyewear displays that connect to personal, military, industrial and medical electronic devices, ranging from cellphones and media players to patient monitoring equipment and thermal weapon sights.

Jeffrey Crippin, MD, of the Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis), was appointed president of the American Society of Transplantation (AST) (Mount Laurel, New Jersey). Crippin previously served the AST as public policy committee chair, councilor-at-large, secretary-treasurer and president-elect. The AST is an international organization of more than 2,500 transplant professionals dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplant science and medicine.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that C. Lee Peeler, deputy director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, will leave the FTC. Peeler, who began his career with the FTC in 1973, will become president of the National Advertising Review Council (New York) and executive vice president, national advertising self-regulation at the Council of Better Business Bureaus (Arlington, Virginia).
