Calypte Biomedical (Lake Oswego, Oregon), a manufacturer of diagnostic tests for the professional point-of-care and over-the-counter segments of the market, primarily for the detection of antibodies to HIV, has appointed Roger Gale, chairman of the board since November 2004, to serve as company president and CEO. Gale has held the position of interim company CEO since October 2005.

Gale is one of two directors originally appointed to Calypte's board in accordance with an August 2003 agreement between the company and Marr Technologies, the company's largest stockholder and sjoint venture partner. Calypte said that Gale offers both the knowledge of Calypte he has gained over the past one-and-a-half years, and also effectiveness in building and maintaining the company's strategic relationship with Marr.

Gale has concurrently resigned his position as executive chairman of WaveCrest Group Enterprises, an international communications services provider. He will relocate to the company's corporate offices in Oregon.
