Fresenius Medical Care (Bad Homburg, Germany), a provider of dialysis products and services, reported that the Products and Hospital Group (PHG) of its Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA; Lexington, Massachusetts) subsidiary acquired Haemotec (Quebec), a manufacturer of hemodialysis concentrates.

The Canadian concentrate market is valued at C$22 million and is projected to grow at approximately 5% per annum, the companies said.

Rice Powell, president of PHG and co-CEO of FMNCA, said: “This is clearly a logical step when it comes to building our dialysis products manufacturing capabilities and base. This investment is part of our capital expenditure budget for 2005 and we expect to achieve further market momentum.”

ResCare (Louisville, Kentucky), a provider of residential, training, educational and support services for people with disabilities and special needs, said it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Albemarle Homecare Services (AHS; Albemarle, North Carolina), which provides in-home personal care, nursing and daily living assistance. Annual revenues are expected to be about $1.6 million.

AHS will join ResCare’s CNC/Access operations in North Carolina. The services are primarily Medicaid-reimbursed.

The transaction is slated to close at the end of this month.

ResCare also said it has closed on its purchase of certain assets of St. Joseph Home Care from a subsidiary of St. Joseph Hospital (Augusta, Georgia).

St. Joseph Home Care provides personal care and companion services. Revenues are expected to be about $1 million annually, the company said.
