August Moretti has been named senior vice president and CFO of Alexza Molecular Delivery (Palo Alto, California) after joining the firm as CFO in a part-time capacity last year. From January 2001 to January of this year, he served as CFO and general counsel for SurroMed, prior to which he was a partner in the law firm of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe. Alexza is a drug delivery company developing products using its Staccato delivery platform technology.

Frank Coll has been named senior vice president, operations, at AmSurg (Nashville, Tennessee). He previously held the same position with Web MD/Envoy Corp. AmSurg develops, acquires and manages physician practice-based ambulatory surgery centers in partnership with surgical and other group practices. As of year-end 2004, it owned a majority interest in 128 centers and had nine centers under development.

Jack Goldstein has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Chiron (Emeryville, California) after serving in that capacity on an interim basis since last November. He previously served as president of Chiron Blood Testing. Chiron also announced the appointments of Gene Walther as president of Chiron Blood Testing, after serving as acting president since November, and Daniel Soland as president of Chiron Vaccines. Soland succeeds John Lambert, who has resigned his post with Chiron.

Jeffrey Crudele has been named CFO of the Eastern Group of hospital operator HCA (Nashville, Tennessee), ef-fective March 14. He will be responsible for the financial operations of HCA's 91 Eastern Group hospitals. Crudele, who has been with HCA for 11 years and currently serves as CFO of the company's Southeast Division, will replace Bill Rutherford, who served in that role since 1996. Rutherford is leaving the company to start his own business.
