U.S. Bioscience reached an agreement with Eli Lilly Canada Inc. inwhich Lilly will be the exclusive marketer in Canada of three U.S.Bioscience drugs, the companies said Wednesday.

The drugs are Hexalen and NeuTrexin, which are approved inCanada, and Ethyol, which is under review there. Eli Lilly Canada, ofScarborough, Ontario, has rights to distribute and market theseproducts in Canada for five years, and the rights to extend the dealfor another five years.

U.S. Bioscience, of West Conshohocken, Pa., gets an up-front feeand potential milestone payments, as well as support for additionalchemo- and radioprotection trials of Ethyol in Canada. U.S.Bioscience will supply products on a cost-plus basis and get noroyalties, said Robert Kriebel, the company's senior vice president,finance and administration.

U.S. Bioscience has no sales of these products to date in Canada,Kriebel said, because it was waiting for a partner to support themarketing effort. Sales of Hexalen and NeuTrexin in 1994, primarilyin the U.S., were $7.2 million, he said. The company reserved rightsto the products in the U.S. and is seeking a marketing partner inEurope, he said.

Hexalen (altretamine) was approved in Canada in 1994 for ovariancancer. NeuTrexin (trimetrexate glucuronate) was approved there in1993 for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Ethyol is a selectivecytoprotective agent.

U.S. Bioscience's stock (AMEX:UBS) closed unchanged Wednesdayat $2.44 per share. _ Jim Shrine
