Crop Genetics (CGI) has announced a reallocation and reductionof its staff to reflect the changing nature of its operations.

Until now, CGI (NASDAQ:CROP) had been devoting the bulk ofits resources to research. Columbia, Md.-based CGI's chairmanand chief executive officer Joe Kelly said that as the company'sfirst products reach the marketplace, it has become necessaryto focus more of the company's resources on manufacturingand reduce the size of the research organization. To accomplishthis, CGI will eliminate 20 positions.

Effective Oct. 1, approximately 25% of the work force will beinvolved in the production of biopesticides based onenvironmentally friendly insect viruses.

The staff cuts will reduce annual expenses by about $2 million,Kelly said.
