Environmental biotechnology company Envirogen Inc.announced Wednesday that it has started field trials to assessits experimental technology to degrade PCBs (polychlorinatedbiphenyls).
The trials are part of Envirogen's (NASDAQ:ENVG) five-yeartechnology development agreement with Texas EasternTransmission Corp., which is currently engaged in a program toclean up PCBs at a number of its gas pipeline compressorstations. Envirogen and Texas Eastern are exploring biological,chemical and physical technologies to treat these soil-contaminating chemical toxicants.
Envirogen of Lawrenceville, N.J., will field-test threedevelopmental technologies this year at Texas Eastern'sArmagh, Pa., site. Both federal (EPA) and state approvals forthe work have been requested through government permitprograms. -- Jennifer Van Brunt
