Biotechnology stocks continued to take a beating Monday.Biogen Inc. (NASDAQ:BGEN) and Amgen Inc. (AMGN) were thebiggest losers: Biogen dropped $4.63 a share to close at $32.13while Amgen was down $4.13 to $49.75.

Other losers Monday were Chiron Corp. (CHIR), which dropped$3.50 a share to $50.75; Synergen Inc. (SYGN) which closed at$48.25, down $3 per share; Immunex Corp. (IMNX), which lost$2.25 a share to end the day at $43; and the newly publicShaman Pharmaceuticals (SHMN), off $1.50 a share to $11.25.

The AMEX Biotechnology Stock Index fell 3.58 points to 137.66,and the Chicago Board Option Exchange Biotechnology Indexwas down 5.16 points to close at 128.6.

Companies that managed to post a gain of $1 or more inMonday's sour market were Alkermes Inc. (ALKS), up $2 ashare to close at $10; Neozyme Corp. (NEOZ), which closed at$12, up $1.50 a share; Amlyin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMLN),which gained $1.25 a share to close at $11.75; and AthenaNeurosciences Inc. (ATHN) and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals(REGN) which each gained $1 a share to close at $9.75 and$15.25, respectively.
