Hycor Biomedical Inc. has licensed a patented leukocyte histamine-release technology from Allergifonden AF of Denmark. The GardenGrove, Calif., company has exclusive worldwide rights except inJapan and Scandinavia to sell products for any applications using thetechnology.
Hycor initally plans to use the technology to develop a blood test forfood allergies. If an allergic person's blood is exposed to an allergen,the leukocyte cells will release histamine, said spokesman RegJones. Hycor expects to begin marketing the test in 1993.
Roche Biomedical Laboratories already has a limited license to usethe technology, but doesn't have the right to develop the test as amarketable product, said Jones.
Hycor shares (NASDAQ:HYBD) gained 25 cents to $8.25 on Friday.
