Bainbridge Laboratories Inc. has received clearance from theFood and Drug Administration to market its PyloriTRAKdiagnostic test for Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infectionassociated with development of stomach ulcers, gastritis andstomach cancer.
Seattle-based Bainbridge, which is investigating marketingrelationships, estimates a potential annual U.S. market for thetests at $60 million. Enteric Products Inc., Hycor BiomedicalInc., Whittaker Bioproducts Inc., Biomerica Inc., MeridianDiagnostics Inc. and Quidel Corp. all either have begunmarketing or plan to begin selling H. pylori tests.
Last week, Enteric of Westbury, N.Y., said it has opened aproduct research and development laboratory at the StateUniversity of New York, Stony Brook, to develop second-generation H. pylori tests.
