Enzo Biochem Inc. on Monday said it has defaulted on itssemiannual interest payments on its 9 percent convertiblesubordinated debentures due March 15, 2001.

The company, which did not make the $1.4 million paymentthat was due on March 15, on Monday said it also has failed topay within the 30-day grace period in which it could haverectified the default.

The announcement was another in a series in which theFarmingdale, N.Y.-based company has said it could not live upto its obligations under the debenture agreement.

Enzo (AMEX:ENZ) made the announcement after the marketswere closed yesterday. It closed at $1.75.
