CETUS NAMES BOARD MEMBERThe board of directors at Cetus Corp. of Emeryville, Calif.,elected to the board William P. Sommers, a senior vicepresident and board member of Booz, Allen & Hamiltonmanagement consulting firm.

Sommers leads Booz's strategy, marketingacquisition/divestiture and operations studies for technology-driven business. Until recently, he led its activities in Japan andAsia/Pacific.

AGOURON APPOINTS VP OF R&D

Agouron Pharmaceuticals Inc. of La Jolla, Calif., appointedRobert C. Jackson, Ph.D., vice president of research anddevelopment. Prior to joining Agouron, Jackson headed thecancer drug discovery program for Du Pont's pharmaceuticalsdivision. He previously directed the chemotherapy program atWarner Lambert/Parke-Davis.

BRITISH BIO-TECHNOLOGY NAMES CLINICAL R&D HEAD

British Bio-technology Ltd. of Oxford, England, appointed Dr.Paul Blake director of clinical research and development. Hewill be responsible for guiding the company's candidate drugsand vaccines through clinical trials and regulatory review, thecompany said.

Blake was previously director of clinical research at ICIPharmaceuticals.

BIOTECHNICA MOVE SPURS APPOINTMENTS

With BioTechnica International's previously announcedrelocation of its corporate headquarters to Overland Park, Kan.,from Cambridge, Mass., comes appointments to two keymanagement positions.

James Santelli was named to become general manager of thenewly created Identity Preserved Products Group, and StevenP. Hall was named vice president of finance and chief financialofficer.

Santelli previously held positions with several seed andagricultural companies, including Royal Seeds, United AgriSeedsand Northrup King. Hall previously held management and staffpositions with Commerce Bank of Kansas City, First InterstateBank Ltd., First National Bank of Chicago and the accountingfirm of Peat Marwick.

Biotechnica decided to focus exclusively on agriculturalproducts and signed a letter of intent to sell Biotechnica'smedical products group in Cambridge to an employee group.They have tentatively named the company OriGene Inc.
