EMBREX BEGINS INSTALLING EGG-INJECTION SYSTEMEmbrex Inc. of Research Triangle Park, N.C., said it started thefirst commercial installation of its Inovoject egg-injectionsystem for the poultry industry. The system eliminates thelabor-intensive manual vaccination of day-old chicks.

Privately held Embrex said that Jack Frost Inc. of St. Cloud,Minn., will pay a fee based on the number of eggs injected andis also buying two vaccines against Marek's disease, whichcauses skin lesions.

PROPOSED BLOOD SUBSTITUTE SAFETY RULES PUBLISHED

The first draft of a Food and Drug Administration documentoutlining safety in the manufacture of blood substitutes waspublished in the Federal Register earlier this month. Theguidelines outline the physiochemical description of products,and animal and human testing. Tom King, vice president ofmarketing at Somatogen Inc. of Boulder, Colo., lauded the draft.Somatogen is conducting animal trials to test recombinanthemoglobin substitutes.

MGI NAMES DIDRONEL DISTRIBUTOR IN CANADA

MGI Pharma Inc. (NASDAQ:MOGN) of Minneapolis said it namedKnoll Pharmaceuticals Canada as the exclusive Canadiandistributor for Didronel I.V. Infusion for treating hypercalcemiaof malignancy starting this March. Before Didronel'sintroduction in the Canadian market, Knoll Canada will makethe drug available on a compassionate use basis.
