Onkos Surgical Inc. nabbed an additional $15 million from its existing investors in a series C fundraising round. The Parsippany, N.J.-based company plans to use the new cash to accelerate research and development for its product line which is designed to meet the specialized needs of oncology patients who require orthopedic surgery and the surgeons who work with them.
Lightpoint Medical Ltd. is stepping up commercialization activities and collaborating with Telix Pharmaceuticals Ltd. on radio-guided cancer surgery. The companies plan to initiate prostate cancer clinical trials evaluating Lightpoint’s Sensei with Telix’s investigational prostate cancer single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging agent TLX599-CDx.

The U.S. FDA has granted IDE approval to the cardiac device startup Foldax Inc., to initiate clinical testing of its Tria mitral surgical heart valve. Patient enrollment is expected to begin in early 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous impact on elective and nonessential procedures, and with them the medical device companies they depend on, but early signs of recovery are encouraging, according to Raghav Tangri, of (DRG), which is part of Clarivate. That said, Tangri told BioWorld that while the second quarter is expected to be the most strongly impacted period this year, the speed of recovery will depend on a number of factors, including the possibility of a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak and how soon a vaccine is available.
