Sirius Medical BV reported successfully closing a $13 million series B round to develop its tumor localization technology. This round was led by Holland Capital Management BV, with support from existing investor BOM Capital BV – through their vehicle, Brabant Ventures – along with Curie Capital BV and Team Holmium BV, plus major investment from Sirius Medical’s management and team. Norgine Ventures Management Ltd., joined as a new investor in this round.

Mvision AI Oy raised €5.4 million (US$5.8 million) in a post seed funding round to help accelerate the development of its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered automatic segmentation software, which automates and standardizes radiotherapy treatment for patients. Mvision aims to make same day cancer treatment a standard globally. The funding was led by J12 Ventures and Voima Ventures.

Ottawa-based start-up Realize Medical Inc. reported U.S. FDA clearance of virtual reality (VR) surgical planning software to help physicians create and share complex patient anatomy from CTs and MRIs in an immersive 3D environment. Company CEO Justin Sutherland told BioWorld clearance of the Elucis platform “is a crucial milestone” that will benefit hospitals and his company well into the future.

A French surgical team has performed a robot-assisted kidney auto-transplantation with ex situ tumorectomies for renal cell cancer. This is the world first use of the fourth generation Da Vinci Xi surgical robot from Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Intuitive Surgical Inc. to perform kidney explanation and autotransplantation with removal of multiple and complex tumors outside of a patient's body.

FDA gives high sign to 3D anatomic modeling platform for face and jaw

Ricoh USA Inc. recently received U.S. FDA clearance for craniomaxillofacial (CMF) and orthopedic patient-specific anatomic modeling technology, using 3D printing technology developed by Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Stratasys Inc. for patient-specific representations of tissue and bone. The Ricoh 3D for Healthcare platform is described as an end-to-end workflow solution for designing and producing 3D-printed anatomic models for the mouth, jaws, face, skull and other CMF structures.
