DUBLIN – Sanifit Therapeutics SA has found a taker for its phase III calcification inhibitor for kidney dialysis patients, SNF-472, in the shape of Vifor Pharma AG, which is acquiring the Spanish company outright for €205 million (US$231 million) up front, up to €170 million in potential clinical development, regulatory and market access milestones, as well as undisclosed commercial milestones.

The FDA has approved Medtronic plc’s Evolut FX TAVR system for patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis. During Medtronic’s fiscal first quarter earnings call CEO Geoffrey Martha said the company will roll the latest generation system out in the U.S. market later this year, with a full launch planned in 2022.

However, a new paper in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) seems to have overwritten that consideration. PARIS – Cardiawave SAS has been granted authorization by the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety to extend its clinical trial in France and treat patients with calcific aortic stenosis (AS).

Boston Scientific Corp. reported the controlled launch of its Acurate Neo2 aortic valve system in Europe. The next-generation transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) technology extends the clinical performance of the original Acurate Neo platform and includes an expanded indication for patients with aortic stenosis.

Medical science continues to define the relative risks of progressively smaller patient subsets across the disease spectrum, but this is particularly true of late in connection with aortic stenosis (AS).

Results of a study presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session on March 29 demonstrated “excellent” outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) using the Medtronic plc Evolut in low surgical risk patients with bicuspid aortic valve stenosis.
