A recent Glaxosmithlline Intellectual Property (No 4) Ltd. and Ideaya Biosciences Inc. patent describes the development of thiadiazolyl derivatives acting as DNA polymerase θ (POLQ) inhibitors reported to be useful for the treatment of cancer.
Researchers at Repare Therapeutics Inc. have prepared and tested N-(5-substituted-[(1,3,4-thiadiazolyl) or (thiazolyl)]) (substituted) carboxamide compounds acting as DNA polymerase θ (POLQ) inhibitors and thus reported to be useful or the treatment of cancer.
Artios Pharma Ltd. plans to begin the first clinical trials of a POLQ inhibitor class cancer drug later this year. There are a handful of companies working on POLQ inhibitor drugs, the name of the gene that encodes the enzyme DNA polymerase theta, but it looks like Artios has taken a head start following the publication of the supportive study in Nature Communications.
