Abbott Laboratories grabbed attention in early June with its announcement of a partnership with Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. to develop a multianalyte sensor for people with diabetes that would measure ketones as well as glucose.

Step aside, Marco Polo: Kakao Healthcare Corp. plans to bring PASTA to Japan. PASTA is Kakao's AI-based continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) management mobile application, which will be available in Japan through a new subsidiary as the health care company works to expand its global presence.  

Vicentra BV aims to make its Kaleido 2 insulin patch pump and automated insulin delivery system even smaller than its current device, already amongst the smallest, lightest and most precise insulin device on the market, new CEO Tom Arnold told BioWorld. As the company works to meet growing demand for its product, Kaleido has the potential to transform diabetes care, he said.

Tandem Diabetes Care Inc.’s Control-IQ+ automated insulin delivery system improved multiple measures of glycemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes who use insulin, a study presented March 19 at the 18th International Conference on Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes and published in The New England Journal of Medicine demonstrated.

Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. reported that its next-generation automated insulin delivery algorithm, Control-IQ+ technology (Control-IQ+), is cleared by the U.S. FDA for use by people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) ages 18 and older.

Dexcom Inc. put real money behind expanding its integration efforts, with a $75 million investment in the $200 million series D for Ōura Health Oy, the maker of the Ōura smart ring. Ōura and Dexcom also provided details on a strategic partnership that integrates data from Dexcom’s continuous glucose monitors with vital sign, sleep, stress, heart health and activity data from the Ōura ring.

Abbott Laboratories’ diabetes unit opened the month with a two-cannon salvo – a partnership with Beta Bionics Inc. that will integrate Abbott’s Freestyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitor with the Ilet Bionic Pancreas system and the roll out of its over-the-counter Lingo CGM in the U.S.

As of this week, consumers can order Dexcom Inc.’s Stelo continuous glucose monitor (CGM) online without a prescription, making it the first to hit the market. Dexcom will have competition soon, however, with Abbott Laboratories planning to roll out its over-the-counter Lingo and Libre Rio CGMs in short order.

Insulet Corp.’s Omnipod 5 automated insulin delivery system has been cleared by the US FDA for the indication of type 2 diabetes, making it the first automated insulin delivery system cleared for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes management.

Medtronic plc hit a sweet spot with its diabetes devices, with the unit leading the company in growth in its first quarter 2025 results. Diabetes device sales grew 11.8% to $647 million for the quarter, an important boost that pushed total revenue up to $7.9 billion ($8.01 billion, adjusted), a 2.8% reported increase or 5.3% exchange rate impact. No other unit saw more than single-digit increases in sales.
