A number of members of the U.S. House of Representatives have penned a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in support of the Medicare Coverage of Innovative Technology (MCIT) rule, the second time in recent weeks the agency has heard from Congress. The net effect of these letters is to suggest that Cures 2.0, which would provide Medicare coverage of breakthrough devices, is not on solid footing, which if true would suggest that the Biden administration’s Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is similarly endangered.

PERTH, Australia – Australian health technology company Planet Innovation is expanding its footprint into the U.S. with the acquisition of the North American operations of Germany’s medical device manufacturer BIT Analytical Instruments GmbH.

The U.K. National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) issued two health technology assessments dated Nov. 24, including one that gives a guarded recommendation for devices used to narrow the coronary sinus as a treatment for refractory angina. Neovasc Inc., of Richmond, British Columbia, touted the news as a positive for its Reducer device, given that this is the first instance in which NICE has lent any support for a device to treat the condition.

Ieso Digital Health Ltd. raised £39 million (US$52.5 million) in financing to develop new tools for its digital cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) service. Investment firm Morningside led the series B round with Sony Innovation Fund and existing shareholders IP Group, Molten Ventures and Ananda Impact Ventures also participating. Ieso’s digital platform connects users to mental health practitioners for text-based therapy.

PARIS – Pcube-Lab BV has closed a $4.75 million funding round to deploy its eye tracking technology, Neuroclues, in Europe and the U.S. This technique helps with early diagnosis of neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.

PERTH, Australia – Medical device and analytics company Trajan Group Holdings Ltd. has acquired the business and manufacturing facilities of Axel Semrau GmbH & Co., based in Sprockhövel, Germany, for AU$26 million (US$18.7 million), expanding the company’s global operations. Axel Semrau develops and manufactures laboratory automation and chromatography software and detection systems. The acquisition is the company’s most significant to date and broadens the company’s manufacturing base in Europe, Trajan founder and CEO Stephen Tomisich told BioWorld.
