Medical device accelerator Medtech Innovator and the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association (Apacmed) have selected Opharmic Technology (HK) Ltd. as the grand prize winner of its Asia Pacific Accelerator program. Opharmic has developed a noninvasive ultrasound platform technology for a variety of biomedical applications, with eye drug delivery being one of the key applications.

TORONTO – Pathway Medical Inc. has raised C$1.6 million (US$1.3 million) in an oversubscribed funding round to expand its evidence-based clinical decision support platform and deliver an enterprise version of its point-of-care technology. The current mobile app uses natural language processing and machine learning to give doctors evidence-based answers to questions on patient diagnosis and treatment.

Iceni Diagnostics Ltd. is accelerating efforts to commercialize a diagnostic for detecting COVID-19 using sugars rather than antibodies. Lateral flow diagnostics (LFDs) have been widely used during the COVID-19 pandemic to diagnose people with an active infection. The tests use antibodies, which attach to the SARS-COV-2 virus but Iceni’s Host-Pathogen Glycan Recognition technology has been touted as a potential alternative due to its polymer approach.

PARIS – Quantum Surgical SAS has closed $48 million in funding to finance the commercial launch of its integrated robotics platform for percutaneous treatment in liver cancer. The round was led by Hong Kong-based Ally Bridge Group who invested $24 million, or half the total amount raised. Three banks also participated in this funding round: The European Investment Bank, Bpifrance and Caisse d’Epargne Languedoc Roussillon.

With the support of Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB), Medtronic plc has launched the Medtronic Open Innovation Platform (OIP) in Singapore to develop med-tech and digital health solutions for Asia Pacific. The company will invest up to $50 million for this venture.
