CLEVELAND — This year's list of top emerging medical innovations, revealed Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic, lived up to its reputation for presenting a mix of cutting edge device, bio, and pharma technology on the horizon from across several medical specialties. The unveiling of the Top 10 medical innovations expected to have a significant impact on healthcare in the coming year has become a highly anticipated event at the annual Medical Innovation Summit. As in past years, these up-and-coming technologies were revealed during an impressive video presentation and a panel of Cleveland Clinic physicians.
Transformation has been the underlying theme of this year's Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit, beginning with the New Venture Healthcare Challenge on Monday (Medical Device Daily, Oct. 15, 2013) and continuing through former Sen. Tom Daschle's talk at dinner. Daschle told the roughly 1,500 Summit attendees that this country is on the brink of a historic transformation that, over the next decade, will change the healthcare landscape dramatically.
Downtown Cleveland was abuzz with the feeling of rivalry Sunday night after the Detroit Lions beat the Cleveland Browns on the Browns' home turf. And on Monday morning at the brand new Global Center for Health Innovation, a friendlier competition was born as nearly a dozen early-stage companies positioned to solve some of healthcare's most pressing challenges competed in the New Venture Healthcare Challenge. The Challenge was part of the 11th annual Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit which runs through Wednesday.
The increasingly popular Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit kicked off today, bringing more than 1,200 executives, investors, entrepreneurs, and clinicians to the brand new Global Center for Health Innovation in Cleveland's downtown. And while there are some obvious changes to this year's summit, the spirit of innovation has clearly not changed.
