A federal jury awarded Insulet Corp. $452 million against Eoflow Co. Ltd., concluding that Eoflow and other defendants stole trade secrets to create the Eopatch, a device with striking similarities to Omnipod, Insulet’s market-dominating tubeless insulin pump.

One of the largest med-tech deals of 2023 was wiped off the charts when Medtronic plc terminated a $738 million agreement to acquire South Korean wearable insulin patch maker Eoflow Co. Ltd., citing “multiple breaches” under its agreements, on Dec. 6.

The miniaturized insulin pump is indicated for individuals with diabetes, aged 6 years and up, with the FDA action boosting Tandem’s share price from $26.41 to $29.20 in morning trading before falling back to $27.12 by the end of the day.

Medtronic plc agreed to acquire Eoflow Co. Ltd., the manufacturer of Eopatch, a tubeless, wearable and fully disposable insulin delivery service, for $738 million. The deal, which is expected to provide a significant boost to Medtronic’s beleaguered diabetes unit, is slated to close in the second half of 2023. The deal announcement coincided with Medtronic’s release of its fourth quarter results for fiscal 2023.
