HONG KONG – Tokyo-headquartered Eisai Co. Ltd. is targeting new markets for its orexin receptor antagonist, Dayvigo, to treat insomnia. The company launched the drug in Japan on July 6, alongside a new fine granule formulation for its antiepileptic drug, Fycompa.
DUBLIN – Idorsia Ltd. plans to file an NDA before the year-end for its insomnia drug, daridorexant, following a read-out of top-line data from a second phase III study, which the company said closely tracked an earlier phase III study, although it failed to meet one of two primary endpoints with statistical significance.
Positive top-line results from the first of two pivotal phase III studies of daridorexant, a dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA) for treating insomnia from Idorsia Ltd., of Allschwil, Switzerland, showed significantly improved sleep onset, sleep maintenance and improved subjective total sleep time in 930 adult and elderly patients.
Pear Therapeutics Inc. obtained FDA approval for Somryst, the first prescription digital therapeutic for chronic insomnia. The app provides structured cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) with clinical dashboards for physicians. While CBT is the recommended first-line therapy for insomnia, the U.S. has only 500 therapists certified to provide CBT for insomnia (CBTi) for the estimated 30 million Americans who suffer from chronic difficulty going to and staying asleep.
PERTH, Australia – Medicinal cannabis company Zelira Therapeutics Ltd. reported that its ZLT-101 therapy met the primary endpoint of a statistically significant improvement in insomnia in a phase Ib/IIa study in patients diagnosed with chronic insomnia.
