Avenda Health Inc. said the findings of a new study published in The Journal of Urology demonstrate the ability of artificial intelligence to accurately identify cancer in oncology imaging and diagnostics.

Avenda Health Inc. reported new study results showing its Unfold AI platform, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to map a tumor’s location within the prostate, encapsulates all of the clinically significant cancer present in the gland more effectively than standard care.

Avenda Health Inc. secured FDA 510(k) clearance for its Iquest platform, which uses artificial intelligence to map the location of a tumor within the prostate. The visualization created provides better assessment of the extent of the malignancy and improves selection of treatments. Avenda raised $10 million in August to support development of Iquest, which guides the company’s Focalpoint laser ablation system.

Recent U.S. FDA actions could transform decades of prostate cancer care. Two companies focused on prostate cancer received good news from the FDA for their artificial intelligence (AI)-driven software. Bot Image Inc. gained FDA clearance for its medical device computer-aided detection and diagnostic tool, Prostatid. The agency also provided FDA investigational device exemption for Avenda Health Inc.’s Focalpoint ablation system that enables more accurate mapping of a patient’s prostate cancer for better surgical results.

Avenda Health Inc. has taken a page out of the breast cancer book with a new technology that offers very localized treatment of prostate tumors in a procedure the company refers to as a prostate cancer lumpectomy. The FDA granted breakthrough device designation to the product based on its potential to transform care for one of the most common cancers.
