The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reported Friday its decision on percutaneous, image-guided surgery for lumbar decompression, opting for clinical trial coverage as a means of furthering the base of evidence. A representative of a leading medical specialty society said he is okay with the decision, and Vertos Medical (Aliso Viejo, California), maker of the device used in the procedure, told Medical Device Daily it is happy with the decision and is ready to work with the agency on clinical trial designs to boost the body of evidence for this service.
