Courts split on DoJ authority to dismiss False Claims Act cases

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has taken action to tamp down on False Claims Act (FCA) lawsuits. However, according to attorneys with the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, the courts have come to different conclusions as to whether federal attorneys have appropriately dismissed FCA cases, a development that opens a new area of concern for drug and device makers. Mayo Clinic partners with Google to accelerate AI projects

Mayo Clinic has entered a 10-year partnership with Google "to expand on the more than 200 projects already incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning," Mayo Chief Medical Information Officer Steve Peters told BioWorld MedTech. The Rochester, Minn.-based health care organization expects Google's expertise in data science and search technology will help the clinic improve treatment and outcomes by developing machine learning models. PERTH, Australia – Australia's Admedus Ltd. has sold its Cardiocel and Vascucel patch business to U.S-based LeMaitre Vascular for up to AU$36.2 million (US$24.5 million), to include an AU$22.8 million up-front cash payment. Read More

Investors stuck on Cohesys adhesive bone tape for use in facial reconstruction

TORONTO – A total of $1.4 million in capital funding from 12 U.S., Canadian and European angel investors will help Toronto-based Cohesys Inc. complete preclinical animal studies, with an eye toward gaining approval for its nontoxic, adhesive tape for rebuilding facial bones. Read More

Abbott Laboratories and Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. said Tuesday that they plan to develop and commercialize a line of integrated diabetes products based on Abbott's glucose sending technology and Tandem's insulin delivery systems.
