Mitral valve surgery, osteoporosis drug top Cleveland Clinic's annual list

Boston Sci climbs 6% on earnings beat, but still down since next-gen TAVR results at TCT

A relief rebound drove Boston Scientific Corp. up 6% on positive third-quarter earnings news. But that wasn't enough to recover all the ground that shares (NYSE:BSX) of the Marlborough, Mass.-based medical device giant lost last month on the disappointing next-generation transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) study results presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference held last month in San Francisco. Gtx Medical, Neurorecovery merger focused on moving the needle on spinal cord injury

Spinal cord stimulation company Gtx Medical BV, of Eindhoven, Netherlands, is merging with San Juan Capistrano, Calif.-based Neurorecovery Technologies Inc. in a move aimed at accelerating access to new therapies for spinal cord injury on both sides of the Atlantic. The combined company, which will be known as Gtx Medical BV, is developing both implantable and transcutaneous technologies for people living with paralysis. FDA breast implant draft urges biennial MRI or ultrasound

The U.S. FDA's draft guidance for labeling and patient information for breast implants addresses concerns over anaplastic large cell lymphoma, but the draft also recommends biennial examination via ultrasound or MRI after five years, a recommendation that could prove a boon to makers of these imaging systems. Australian scientists have discovered promising new candidate analgesic molecules derived from a Penicillium fungus, which represents a promising resource for the development of safer new analgesics, they reported in the Oct. 14, 2019, edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
