Mesoblast scores first US nod for mesenchymal stromal cell therapy

Regenerative medicine company Mesoblast Ltd. received an early Christmas present from the FDA for approval of its allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy, Ryoncil (remestemcel-L), for steroid-refractory acute graft-vs.-host disease (SR-aGvHD) in children 2 months and older, including adolescents. Any Betta? FDA adds Ensacove to ALK lung cancer weaponry

A Chinese player entered the U.S. non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) arena as the U.S. FDA cleared Xcovery Holdings Inc.’s Ensacove (ensartinib) as a first-line therapy for adults with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive locally advanced or metastatic disease who have not previously received an ALK-inhibitor. Xcovery, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is a subsidiary of Betta Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd, of Hangzhou, China. Read More

Merck strikes a $2B GLP-1 deal with Hansoh

Merck & Co. Inc. has turned to Asia for a second time to get into the GLP-1 market, this time to Shanghai-based Hansoh Pharmaceutical Group Co. Ltd. for its investigational preclinical oral small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist. Hansoh is getting $112 million up front and could bring in another $1.9 billion in milestone payments. Merck said the addition to its GLP-1 arsenal is “to provide additional cardiometabolic benefits beyond weight reduction.” Read More

Sangamo and Astellas link up in a $1.32B AAV deal

Sangamo Therapeutics Inc.’s second large, worldwide licensing deal for its capsid technology in the past five months is with Astellas Pharma Inc. The California-based company is getting $20 million up front and the chance to bring in up to $1.3 billion in fees and milestone payments in an agreement spanning five potential disease targets for gene therapies to treat neurological diseases. China gives thumbs up to Innovent’s taletrectinib for lung cancer

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved Innovent Biologics Inc.’s NDA for Dovbleron (taletrectinib), a next-generation ROS1 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), for treating adults with locally advanced or metastatic ROS1-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have been previously treated with ROS1 TKIs. Sanofi expands SK Bio deal, starts phase III of GBP-410

SK Bioscience Co. Ltd. won €50 million (₩75.5 billion, US$52.03 million) up front from Sanofi SA to expand an earlier agreement to develop and commercialize novel pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs). Cancer, GI-focused Onconic shares take off after ₩20B IPO

Onconic Therapeutics Inc., a subsidiary of Jeil Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., saw its shares (KOSDAQ:476060) ascend for two consecutive days after debuting with a ₩20.15 billion (US$13.89 million) IPO on the Korea Exchange Dec. 19. Seoul, South Korea-based Onconic’s Kosdaq IPO offered about 1.55 million shares at ₩13,000 each, which was lowered from its original price band of ₩16,000 to ₩18,000 per share after demand forecasting.
