IPC The Hospitalist Company (North Hollywood, California), a national hospitalist physician group practice company, reported that it has acquired the hospitalist division of Affiliated Medical Associates of Morristown (AMAM; Morristown, New Jersey).

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition establishes IPC's first practice in New Jersey and expands the company's national presence to 19 states. IPC said it expects to add about 47,000 patient encounters annually from this acquisition.

Ed Crandell, IPC executive director for the region said, "AMAM's hospitalists will continue to practice at Morristown Memorial Hospital and also provide coverage at local nursing homes. IPC supplies the group the additional resources needed to focus on operational and quality initiatives, enhance clinical communications, and expand recruitment potential."

One of the AMAM partners, Peter Roytman, MD, will serve as IPC's practice group leader for the group.
