Scott Sarran, MD, was named VP and chief medical officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL; Chicago). Previously, Sarran was chief medical officer for Fidelis SeniorCare. With more than 7 million members, BCBSIL is the largest health insurance company in Illinois.

Philip Calamia was named interim CFO of Encorium Group (Wayne, Pennsylvania). Calamia is a partner of the consultancy firm Penn Valley Group. Encorium Group is a clinical research organization.

John McDermott was named president/CEO of Endologix (Irvine, California). Previously, McDermott was president of Bard Peripheral Vascular. Endologix makes the Powerlink system for the minimally invasive treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Kenneth Cooke was named COO and director of Intermedix (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). Most recently, Cooke was the U.S. and Global CIO and the office managing partner of the enterprise solutions center for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Intermedix provides technology-based business services.

Michael Sandler, MD, a West Bloomfield diagnostic radiologist, was named president of the 15,000 member Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS; East Lansing). Sandler is senior staff member in the department of diagnostic radiology at Henry Ford Hospital and currently serves on the Michigan Radiological Society board of directors.

• Qiagen (Venlo, The Netherlands) said that Lynda Merrill has joined the company as VP of molecular diagnostic sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australia. Most recently, Merrill was VP for industrial relationships for Gen-Probe. Qiagen is a molecular diagnostics company.

• Vyteris (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) named Haro Hartounian as president and Joseph Himy as CFO. Hartounian was most recently chief technology director at Vyteris; Himy was VP of finance. Vyteris makes an active transdermal drug delivery patch using low-level electrical energy.
