• Daniel Lemaitre has been named CEO of CoreValve (Irvine, California). Lemaitre succeeds Jacques S guin, MD, PhD, co-founder of CoreValve, who will remain as chairman. Previously, Lemaitre has led Medtronic's corporate strategic planning and corporate development functions since 2006. Additionally, Vito Canuso has been named VP of intellectual property. Canuso joins CoreValve from the intellectual property law firm Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear, where he was a partner since 1995. CoreValve makes the ReValving System, which it says enables both percutaneous aortic valve replacement and transapical aortic valve replacement, as an alternative to open-heart surgery.

• David Hathaway, MD, has been named chief medical officer of HeartWare Limited (Framingham, Massachusetts). Hathaway previously was chief medical officer for several drug discovery and medical device companies. HeartWare makes miniaturized implantable heart pumps.

• Medtronic (Minneapolis) reported a series of organizational and leadership changes. Michael DeMane, COO, has informed the company that he has decided to leave to pursue other opportunities. Medtronic's global business unit presidents will report to President/CEO Bill Hawkins. Hawkins in turn reported several organizational changes to provide focus, the company said, "on growth, globalization, operating leverage, and innovation." Jean-Luc Butel was named senior VP and president of Medtronic International; James Dallas was named senior VP of quality and operations; Katie Szyman, formerly VP of Medtronic Endovascular, was named senior VP of a newly formed strategy and development group that combines Medtronic's corporate strategy, business development, corporate ventures, and science and technology functions; Steve LaNeve, formerly president of Medtronic Japan, was named senior VP and president of Medtronic's spinal and biologics business, replacing Pete Wehrly, who is leaving the company; Bob Blankemeyer, VP and general manager of Medtronic ENT/NT, assumes additional responsibility for Medtronic Navigation; Steve Mahle was named executive VP of healthcare policy and regulatory.

• Greg Davis has been named president/CEO of Tryton Medical (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina). Davis, Tryton said, comes to it from a 20-year career with Guidant and Eli Lilly. Tryton makes stents used to treat bifurcated lesions.
