• Anders Karlsson was named the new CEO of LinkMed's (Stockholm, Sweden) portfolio company, AbSorber. Karlsson has been COO of the company since fall 2007. AbSorber's former CEO, Ingemar Lagerl f, who also is CEO of LinkMed, becomes a member of the supervisory board of AbSorber, a maker of products that assist transplantations.
• IDEX (Northbrook, Illinois) said its VP/general counsel and secretary, Frank Notaro, will be stepping down on or before April 30, 2009. CEO/chairman Larry Kingsley said, "Frank has been a valued contributor to the company, enabling growth while insuring that the company has been a model for good corporate governance. [His] decision to leave the company is in concert with his personal and professional objectives." Notaro will remain in his current role until a successor is named and a complete transition of responsibilities has been accomplished. IDEX specializes in fluid and metering technologies.
• ProGenTech (Emeryville, California) has made several executive management appointments to its senior management team. Paul Richardson has joined ProGenTech as VP for R&D. Richardson was previously the head of R&D at the DOE's Joint Genome Institute. Jesus Ching was named chief scientist. Ching previously was director of R&D at Cepheid. Sarah Wenning was named VP of U.S. operations. Wenning previously was deputy associate director for operations of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Biosciences Directorate. Dylan Bird was named director of business development. Previously, Bird was an investment professional at Bay City Capital. David Hu was named VP of engineering, based in Shanghai. David was the lead angel investor for ProGenTech and remains a member of the company's board.
