Encorium Group (Wayne, Pennsylvania) reported signing new business contracts valued at about $2.2 million with multiple European and U.S. biopharmaceutical companies. The therapeutic areas included in these awards are oncology, pulmonary arterial hypertension, infectious diseases, immunology/vaccines, and women's health.

Services to be provided include consulting, regulatory affairs, project management, field monitoring, and medical monitoring/writing.

Kenneth Borow, MD, president and chief medical and strategic development officer of Encorium, said, "This is the third set of new business contracts that we have announced within the past two weeks. We anticipate releasing additional new business announcements over the next several weeks ...."

Encorium is a clinical research organization specializing in the design of complex clinical trials and patient registries.

In other contract news: Rural/Metro (Scottsdale, Arizona) reported that it has been awarded a multi-year renewal contract to continue providing exclusive 911 ambulance services in Jefferson County, Georgia.

The initial two-year renewal term begins May 1, 2008, followed by two one-year extension periods, for a total possible length of four years. The company estimates the contract will generate approximately $1.2 million in net revenue annually, which includes a $0.4 million annual subsidy provided by the county to help offset costs related to uncompensated care.

Rural/Metro and its acquired predecessor company have provided exclusive 911 ambulance services in Jefferson County since 1990. The company also provides non-emergency medical transportation services to local and regional hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the area.

Rural/Metro provides emergency and non-emergency ambulance services and private fire protection services in 23 states and about 400 communities throughout the U.S.
