• Advanced Technology Ventures (ATV; Waltham, Massachusetts) reported that Thomas Caputo, Ken Ebbitt and Dharmesh Thakker have joined the firm as senior associates. Caputo joined ATV from Microsoft, where he was group product manager for Windows; Ebbitt was previously senior product marketing manager at PayPal; Thakker was director of corporate development at Keynote systems. ATV is a bi-coastal venture capital firm that invests in information technology, healthcare and “clean-tech” companies.
• Brian Balgley, PhD, has been promoted from director of proteomics to chief technology officer of Calibrant Biosystems (Gaithersburg, Maryland). Calibrant is a biotechnology company specializing in proteomics.
• Cylex (Columbia, Maryland) said that Paul Sohmer, MD, has been named to its board and has agreed to serve as acting CEO of the company. Most recently, Sohmer served as chairman, president/CEO of TriPath Imaging. Cylex makes the ImmuKnow cell function assay.
• Michael Patane, PhD, has been promoted from VP of R&D to chief scientific officer for EyeGate Pharma (Waltham, Massachusetts). EyeGate uses iontophoresis technology to non-invasively deliver therapeutics into the front and back of the eye for serious ocular indications.
• RehabCare Group (St. Louis) has named Randy Hamilton as the CEO of Northland LTAC hospital, a hospital under development in an area of Kansas City, known as the Northland. Hamilton most recently was COO for Chest Medicine Associates. RehabCare provides physical rehabilitation program management services in about 1,250 hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
