Richard Gonzalez, president/COO, and a member of Abbott’s (Abbott Park, Illinois) board of directors, plans to retire after a 30-year career with the company. “Rick is a consummate leader and has had a distinguished career at Abbott, including his work to help conceive and execute Abbott’s successful medical products strategy,” said Miles White, CEO/chairman. Gonzalez will remain with Abbott until Sept. 30, 2007. Upon his retirement, the heads of Abbott’s four operating businesses — medical devices, pharmaceuticals, nutritionals and diagnostics — will report directly to White. Abbott specializes in pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics.

Michael Kramer was named CFO of ATS Medical (Minneapolis). Kramer had served as the company’s acting CFO since February 2007. Since September 2006 and until his appointment as acting CFO, Kramer served as the company’s senior director of finance. ATS Medical provides products and services focused on cardiac surgery.

James Reinstein was named VP of sales and marketing and GM of International of Cyberonics (Houston). Reinstein most recently was VP of Boston Scientific Asia. Cyberonics specializes in treatment of epilepsy, depression and other chronic disorders.

Henry Scaramelli was named VP of finance and CFO of Datascope (Montvale, New Jersey). Scaramelli has been VP and acting CFO since April, when then-CFO Scott Kantor resigned. Scaramelli has been a financial executive at Datascope for 17 years. Datascope makes products for clinical health care markets in anesthesiology, cardiovascular and vascular surgery.
