AdvaMed (Washington) yesterday reported the appointment of Julie Cohen, a Capitol Hill veteran and former staff director of the Senate Aging Committee, to the position of VP of government affairs. AdvaMed said that Cohen will play a role in its federal advocacy efforts with Congress and the administration.

Cohen brings more than 11 years of Capitol Hill experience to AdvaMed. Prior to her most recent position at the Senate Aging Committee, Cohen advised Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) on healthcare, education and child support policy in her post as legislative assistant. Her earlier work also included handling Kohl's work with the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee.

"Cohen's appointment builds upon the strength of the Association's bi-partisan government affairs team of nationally recognized experts in health care policy," said Stephen Ubl, president/CEO of AdvaMed.

Amy Cunniffe, senior executive VP and director of AdvaMed's government affairs staff, said, "Cohen's experience working on Capitol Hill on behalf of our aging population brings a new element to AdvaMed's advocacy group. Her strong reputation will serve the association well as critical medical technology issues are considered by Congress."
