Biomet (Warsaw, Indiana) and Kensey Nash (Exton, Pennsylvania) reported that Biomet's arthroscopy subsidiary, Biomet Sports Medicine, has signed an exclusive marketing and distribution agreement for Kensey Nash's product OrthoFill, a resorbable bone void filler.

Kensey Nash received regulatory clearance for OrthoFill Bone Void Filler in September. Biomet will market and distribute, and Kensey Nash will manufacture the product. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

OrthoFill is an implant manufactured from Kensey Nash's Porous Tissue Matrix Technology, which creates foamed scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. The product uses several resorbable biomaterials including a proprietary collagen formulation, synthetic polymer and ceramic. That design creates a structure that is optimized for specific types of bone void filling indications. Further, OrthoFill uses a material composite similar to Kensey Nash's proprietary tissue engineering implant designed to repair damaged articular cartilage in the knee and other articulating joints, currently being evaluated in preclinical research.

Biomet Sports Medicine and Kensey Nash also have agreed to work together to advance the R&D of Kensey Nash's cartilage repair matrix and will cooperate in future preclinical studies.

Biomet's portfolio encompasses a wide range of orthopedics products, from joint replacements to softgoods and bracing materials. Kensey Nash provides a range of products, primarily in the endovascular, sports medicine and spine.
