A Diagnostics & Imaging Week
HemoCue AB (Angelholm, Sweden), a privately held manufacturer of medical diagnostic systems, and HemoCue Inc. (Lake Forest, California), its U.S. unit, said that as part of their effort to enforce their hemoglobin cuvette patent against German manufacturer EKF diagnostic GmbH and its U.S. distributor, Stanbio Laboratory, the patent is being re-examined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The HemoCue companies said they “are confident of a favorable outcome” from their reexamination and enforcement efforts.
HemoCue is a manufacturer of point-of-care (POC) testing systems. HemoCue’s products include hemoglobin, glucose and urine albumin POC systems used in the emergency room for assessment of blood loss and in primary care for anemia screening, diagnosis of diabetes and for the early detection of renal and cardiovascular disease.
