• Gen-Probe (San Diego) reported that Larry Mimms, PhD, who the company said had spearheaded its entry into blood screening and oncology markets, has been promoted to executive vice president, R&D, effective June 20. Mimms replaces Jim Godsey, PhD, who is leaving Gen-Probe to join a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary. Mimms joined Gen-Probe in 1994 as director of R&D. Gen-Probe manufactures nucleic acid tests used to diagnose human diseases and screen donated human blood.
• Thomas Schreck has been named CEO of Iken Tissue Therapeutics (San Francisco/Tucson, Arizona). Schreck most recently served as CFO and a director of Durect. Iken develops tissue-based therapies for cardiovascular and vascular indications. Its lead product, Anginera, is an epicardial tissue-based patch for treatment of chronic cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure.
• Kathleen Donovan has been named CFO of MedQuist (Mount Laurel, New Jersey), effective June 27. Donovan most recently was senior vice president and CFO for Dendrite International. MedQuist, a member of the Philips Group, is a provider of electronic medical transcription, health information and document management products and services.
