PolyCarbon Industries (Devens, Massachusetts) reported that it has launched an investigation into the cause of an explosion that occurred March 22 inside its manufacturing facility in Leominster, Massachusetts. The roof and one wall of the building released in accordance with industry standards for explosion-proof, safe construction, the company said.
One operator sustained a minor burn to his hand. He was treated and released at a local hospital. There were no other injuries.
Ed Price, co-founder and president of PolyCarbon Industries, said that all appropriate follow-up actions are being taken. "Safety is an important standard at PCI. We are grateful no serious injury occurred. We continue to work with all fire, environmental, health and safety agencies to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted."
PolyCarbon provides organic chemical synthesis and manufacturing to a variety of industries, including the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. The company employs 32 people at its combined locations in Leominster and Devens.
