Robert Weiss, executive vice president and CFO of The Cooper Companies (Lake Forest, California), has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer. Steven Neil, formerly CFO of Ocular Sciences, which Cooper acquired this month, was named vice president and CFO. Carol Kaufman, vice president of legal affairs, secretary and chief administrative officer, was promoted to senior vice president. Gene Midlock, a former executive with KPMG, has been named vice president of tax. In addition, Gregory Fryling, formerly chief operating officer of CooperVision, the company's contact lens unit, was named president and COO of CooperVision. Paul Remmell, formerly chief operating officer of the company's CooperSurgical unit, was named president and COO of CooperSurgical, a manufacturer of diagnostic products, surgical instruments and accessories to the women's healthcare market.

Steve Curd, CEO of VantageMed (Rancho Cordova, California), has been appointed to the company's board of directors, replacing Richard Brooks, who has resigned to pursue other interests. VantageMed is a provider of healthcare information systems and services distributed to more than 12,000 customer sites nationwide.
