¿ Cellomics Inc., of Pittsburgh, said Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Ridgefield, Conn., has accessed Cellomics¿ HCS Technologies. Boehringer will use the system to automate its drug discovery process. Financial terms were not disclosed.

¿ EraGen Biosciences Inc., of Alachua, Fla., was awarded a Phase II National Institutes of Health grant to develop a new functional genomics software suite. The Small Business Innovative Research grant, valued at $750,000, follows the Phase I award and will be used in efforts to refine and further develop the Master Catalog software.

¿ Exten Industries Inc., of San Diego, said it raised the funds necessary to complete the acquisition of MultiCell Associates Inc., of Warwick, R.I. Exten is buying MultiCell from the estate of the late Hugo Jauregui for a combination of cash and common stock. MultiCell is a cell research firm with knowledge in engineering liver cells. The companies have been in a joint development program for a liver assist device and an engineered cell line specific to the device. Also, Exten reached an agreement with a $500,000 noteholder to convert it into common stock.

¿ Orchid BioSciences Inc., of Princeton, N.J., established a commercial genotyping service agreement with PIC International Group plc, of Berkeley, Calif. Under the terms of the agreement, Orchid will perform single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping services designed to enhance PIC¿s animal breeding methods. Terms were not disclosed. PIC uses genetic analysis to identify desirable SNPs associated with important economic traits such as litter size, meat quality and reduced susceptibility to disease.

¿ PhotoCure ASA, of Oslo, Norway, submitted marketing authorization applications to the health authorities of 16 EU/EEA countries for Metvix PDT (photodynamic therapy) for the treatment of actinic keratosis and basal cell carcinoma when traditional therapies are considered less suitable. The product was granted authorization in Sweden in June. Metvix PDT combines the local application of Metvix cream to the skin and activation of the drug through illumination using a red light source called Curelight.
