Megan Ivory has been named director of federal government relations for the Advanced Medical Technology Association (Washington). Previously, Ivory served as a senior legislative assistant for U.S. House Representative Jim Ramstad (R-Minnesota).

David Chazanovitz will join Cambridge Heart (Bedford, Massachusetts) as president and chief operating officer. Jeffrey Arnold, formerly chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer will remain as chairman and CEO of the company. For the past five years Chazanovitz has worked as a divisional president for NMT Medical, initially with responsibility for establishing a start-up effort to develop a new cardiac technology and more recently as president of NMT Medical's Neurosciences Division. Cambridge Heart makes products for the noninvasive diagnosis of cardiac disease.

Mark Bloom has been appointed manager of technology licensing for CCF Innovations (Cleveland, Ohio), the technology commercialization arm of the Cleveland Clinic. Bloom most recently was a licensing officer for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, founded in 1921, integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education in a private, non-profit group practice.

John Douglas Jr., MD, has been named director of the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center of Emory University Hospital (Atlanta, Georgia). Douglas is a professor of medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine and also the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Emory University Hospital. In addition to his new position, Douglas will continue as director of both the cardiac catheterization laboratory and the cardiac observation area at Emory University Hospital. Douglas has been at Emory University Hospital since 1972, where he began as a cardiology fellow, and he joined the faculty of the Emory University School of Medicine in 1974.

John Ahern has been named president and chief executive officer of NMT Medical (Boston, Massachusetts). He also will serve as a director and chairman of the board. Previously, Ahern was vice president, emerging technologies, at C.R. Bard. NMT Medical makes medical devices delivered by minimally invasive procedures, with its product line including self-expanding stents, vena cava filters and septal repair devices.
