Rigel takes on US marketing of Blueprint’s Gavreto

Blueprint Medicines Corp. found a new U.S. commercialization home for Gavreto (pralsetinib) through an agreement with Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc. potentially worth $117.5 million, now that Roche Holding AG has relinquished all rights. The product, a once-daily oral small-molecule kinase inhibitor of wild-type RET (rearranged during transfection) and oncogenic RET fusions, received accelerated approval in 2020 by the U.S. FDA, under priority review and with orphan drug designation, to treat adults with metastatic RET fusion-positive non-small-cell lung cancer.

Astellas’ Xyphos teams with Kelonia on cancer drugs in $800M deal

San Francisco-based Xyphos Biosciences Inc. is pooling technology platforms with Boston’s Kelonia Therapeutics Inc. in a novel immuno-oncology (I-O) drug discovery deal that could fetch more than $800 million. Xyphos and Kelonia will collaborate to develop a maximum of two in vivo CAR T-cell therapy programs, utilizing both Kelonia’s in vivo gene placement system called iGPS and Xyphos’ Accel technology platform.

Ono inks deals with Shattuck, Numab in autoimmune disease, oncology

Ono Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. inked deals with Shattuck Labs Inc. and Numab Therapeutics AG aimed at bolstering its pipeline in oncology and autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Ono struck a drug discovery collaboration and option agreement with Shattuck Labs to generate bifunctional fusion proteins for pathways involved in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. It also signed a global research, development and commercialization deal with Numab for its NM-49, a multispecific antibody designed to activate tumor-associated macrophage phagocytosis for treating cancers.

January biopharma deals exceed $26B, marking sixth-highest month

Biopharma deals in January reached $26.97 billion, marking the sixth-highest month in BioWorld’s records going back to 2016. It is an increase of nearly 25% from the $21.64 billion in deals in January 2023 and also is up from December. Value the first month of the year is more than 2023’s average monthly value of $18.14 billion, and likewise more than the average monthly value of any previous year.

Med-tech deals soar to record high in 2023, digital health still dominates

Despite a slowdown in the fourth quarter (Q4), med-tech deals concluded the year with the highest deal-value total in BioWorld MedTech’s records. In 2023, a total of $10.63 billion was raised from deals, a 33% increase over the $7.99 billion deal total in 2022. Meanwhile, annual M&A value dropped 58%, from $153.09 billion in 2022 to $64.8 billion in 2023.

Adagio speeds up financing rhythm with $42M SPAC deal

The slow pace of financing in med-tech appears to have stimulated cardiac arrhythmia technology developer Adagio Medical Inc. to turn to a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in a type of deal that has all but vanished in the last year. The company signed an agreement with Arya Sciences Acquisition Corp. IV to combine in a reverse merger deal that will result in Adagio’s listing on Nasdaq under “ADGM.”

Roche bails again, this time on Repare’s camonsertib
