MTH1 inhibition for treating allergic airway inflammation

March 25, 2025
Asthma affects about 300 million people worldwide. Inflammation in asthma may drive irreversible airway remodeling due to subepithelial fibrosis, extracellular matrix degradation and increased smooth muscle cell mass levels, among others. In vitro and in vivo assays were performed to test MutT homolog 1 (MTH1) as a therapeutic target in allergic airway inflammation.

COVID-19 and Epstein-Barr cause inflammatory shock in children

March 20, 2025
By Mar de Miguel
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a serious disorder that develops after SARS-CoV-2 infection, could arise from latent infection of another pathogen, the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Researchers at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Rheumatology Research Center (DRFZ) have linked the inflammatory effect of this co-infection with transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), ruling out the possibility that MIS-C is caused by an autoimmune reaction, or persistence of the coronavirus in the body.

APG-777 plus APG-990 combination results in superior suppression of inflammatory cytokines

March 14, 2025
APG-777 is an anti-IL-13 humanized monoclonal antibody (mAb) designed to block Th2 inflammatory signaling mediated by the IL-13Rα1/IL-4Rα complex, while APG-990 is a fully human anti-OX40L mAb that that blocks type 1/2/3 inflammatory signaling. Apogee Therapeutics Inc. is studying the combination effects of APG-777 and APG-990 as potential therapy for atopic dermatitis (AD).

Inflammation appears to cause mutations linked to MS progression

March 10, 2025
By Tamra Sami
For the first time, researchers have identified that inflammation – long associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) – appears to cause increased mutations that damage neurons linked to MS progression. Researchers at the Florey Institute and the University of Melbourne studied MS brain lesions, which are areas of past or ongoing brain inflammation that are visible as spots on MRI scans.
