Zeta raises $5.2M to advance, extend image-guided neurosurgery beyond the hospital

Zeta Surgical Inc. has raised $5.2 million in seed funding to improve the accuracy and safety of image-guided surgical procedures through its Zeta neurosurgical navigation platform. Zeta CEO Jose Maria Amich told BioWorld the funding will also advance a non-invasive ultrasound system for imaging the brain and help complete initial clinical studies for its FDA approvals application.

Podimetrics steps up fundraising with $45M series C

Investors kicked in $45 million in a series C financing round for Podimetrics Inc., the maker of a device that provides early indication of developing diabetic foot ulcers. D1 Capital Partners led the round with new investor Medtech Convergence Fund and an undisclosed strategic investor. Polaris Partners and Scientific Health Developed returned for the series C, which brought the total raised by Podimetrics to date to more than $73 million.

Microbiotica aims to rethink care for cancer and ulcerative colitis, raising £50M series B

Microbiotica Ltd. of Cambridge, U.K., has raised £50 million ($67 million) in series B funding as the company aims to test its microbiome-based technology in early cancer and ulcerative colitis trials. The funding was co-led by new investors Tencent and Flerie Invest, with British Patient Capital on board along with existing investors Cambridge Innovation Capital, IP Group and Seventure. With response rates to checkpoint inhibitors still very low, Microbiotica’s scientists think that the way to improve the immune system’s response to these drugs is by modifying the bacteria present in the gut.

Epsilogen raises £30.8M series B to support testing IgE antibody against ovarian cancer

LONDON – Epsilogen Ltd. has raised £30.8 million (US$41.5 million) in an oversubscribed series B, after its lead immunoglobulin E (IgE) program delivered positive results in a phase I in advanced solid tumors. The money is to fund a phase Ib trial of the product, Mov18 IgE – the first and only IgE antibody to have made it to the clinic – in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.

Awaiting NASH data, Northsea pads coffers with $80M series C

SK Biopharmaceuticals Co. Ltd. has launched a central nervous system-focused biotech company called Ignis Therapeutics Ltd. with a $180 million series A round led by 6 Dimensions Capital L.P. The financing of the new Shanghai-based company represents the largest series A investment in China’s biopharma industry in 2021, according to the two founding companies. KB Investment Co. Ltd, WTT investment Ltd., HBM Healthcare Investments AG and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. also participated in the round.
