Israel’s Lutris shares positive readout from early-stage trials of B-Raf inhibitor

HONG KONG – Lutris Pharma Ltd., a company taking on the dermal toxicity common to cancer therapy with EGFR inhibitors, has begun testing its lead product, the B-Raf inhibitor LUT-014, in a phase II trial targeting reduction of acne-like lesions associated with the class. Partial results are expected by the end of 2021.

FDA greenlights Respinova's Pulsehaler

The management team at Respinova Ltd. is breathing easier with the FDA's 510(k) clearance of the company's Pulsehaler. Using pulsed air pressure, the device opens airways and clears secretions in patients with respiratory diseases. The clearance represents the device’s first endorsement by a regulatory agency, though the company hopes it will soon be joined by others.

Forsight Robotics snags $10M in seed round to advance ophthalmic surgery platform

Israeli med-tech startup Forsight Robotics Ltd. has closed a $10 million seed funding round led by Eclipse Ventures and joined by Mithril Capital. The funding will help advance the company’s work on a surgical robotic platform that employs microsurgical robotics, computer visualization and machine learning to automate many of the complex elements of ophthalmic surgery.

Researchers ID new method to monitor schizophrenia drug in blood

HONG KONG – Researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Israel have developed a way to instantly monitor blood levels of the antipsychotic drug clozapine. BGU’s solution is based on an electrochemical microsensor developed by Hadar Ben-Yoav from BGU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering and Ilse Katz Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology.

If Marvel’s Peter Parker had chosen to apply his graduate work in biochemistry and his web-shooters to medicine, he might have created something like Nanomedic Technologies Ltd.’s Spincare system. Patensee Ltd. initiated a first-in-human trial of its machine vision-based surveillance system for stenosis in hemodialysis patients. The trial will evaluate the imaging system's ability to perform contact-free surveillance of the access points or fistulas essential for dialysis, which nearly all narrow or become blocked over time. The surveillance system aims to mimic the central components of a dialysis nurse's exam using technology.

Earlysense distributes its remote monitoring tech to Hillrom

HONG KONG – Earlysense Ltd. has sold a contact-free continuous monitoring technology to global med-tech provider Hillrom Holdings Inc. Ramat Gan, Israel-based Earlysense will receive licensing for all intellectual property and technology sold to Chicago-based Hillrom for use outside the hospital along with $30 million in cash, commercial milestone payments and a portion of Hillrom's equity investment
