Volcano (San Diego) has agreed to pay about $21.5 million in cash to acquire Axsun Technologies (Boston), a private company that makes lasers and optical engines used in optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems and advanced photonic components and subsystems used in other industrial applications. ‘Tis the season to make big deals, at least that seems to be the case for St. Jude Medical (St. Paul, Minnesota). The company reported two acquisitions back to back this week – Radi Medical Systems for $250 million cash and MediGuide (Haifa, Israel) for $283 million in cash plus $17 million net liabilities.
